A bit about the ECX: These Ethiopian beans are specialty beans sourced through the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers’ Cooperative Union and traded on the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX), the primary platform for coffee trade in Ethiopia. The ECX was established in 2008 and is often credited to Eleni Zaude Gabre-Madhin, an Ethiopian economist. The introduction of the ECX has generally been seen as successful in enhancing the livelihoods of coffee farmers and making price information more accessible. However, there is a consensus among stakeholders that improvements are still needed, particularly in areas such as farm traceability, cupping capacity, and international market access.
